Do:

Keep the area clean and dry: Gently wash the circumcised area with warm water and mild, unscented soap during diaper changes or after using the bathroom. Pat the area dry thoroughly.
Apply petroleum jelly: Use a thin layer of petroleum jelly (like Vaseline or Aquaphor) at diaper changes to prevent sticking and irritation.
Wear loose-fitting clothing: Tight clothing can irritate the healing area. Opt for loose-fitting underwear and pants.
Use pain medication as directed: If your doctor prescribes pain medication for your child or you (for adult circumcision), use it as directed.
Watch for signs of infection: Be aware of redness, swelling, pus, or fever, which could indicate infection. Contact your doctor if you notice any of these.

Don't:

Force foreskin retraction: Don't try to pull back the foreskin during cleaning. It will naturally retract on its own over time.
Submerge in baths: Avoid baths for at least a few days after circumcision. Stick to sponge baths or cleaning the genital area with a washcloth.
Use harsh soaps or irritants: Don't use harsh soaps, alcohol, or other irritating products on the healing area.
Apply dressings: Don't use bandages or dressings on the circumcision site unless specifically instructed by your doctor.
Strenuous activity: Avoid activities that could irritate the area, like bike riding or rough play for children.
