Barry is a graduate of the University of Sheffield Medical School, where he also completed early surgical training. Upon moving to London, he successfully joined the prestigious Percival Pott orthopaedic training rotation which included specialist knee and trauma training at St.Bartholomews, The Royal London, and The Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital, Stanmore. He joined the UK Specialist Register for Trauma and Orthopaedic Surgery in 2015. Barry Andrews is a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon practising at King’s College hospital, specialising in knee and trauma surgery.
He is an expert in knee replacement, and in particular partial knee replacement, but recognises the importance of knee preservation surgery. He can offer expert treatment for cartilage lesions, meniscal problems, ACL, PCL, and multi-ligament knee injuries, and specialises in osteotomies around the knee. He is a specialist complex orthopaedic trauma surgeon which includes periprosthetic fractures around knee replacements.
His NHS base is at King’s College Hospital London, a teaching hospital and Major Trauma Centre. Barry is committed to research, and was awarded the NIHR “Greenshoots” prize for new researchers in 2019. He is the Principal Investigator for the ACL SNNAP trial at King’s. He has 16 International Presentations, including a European prize-winning presentation for his work on partial knee replacement, and 19 National Presentations.
Mr Andrews is a dedicated teacher and trainer: He runs the knee surgery simulation courses at King’s, lectures to the FRCS knee and trauma trainees, and he is an Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS) Instructor.
He is dedicated to improving patient outcomes, through his use of the UK National Ligament Registry (UKNLR), the UK Osteotomy Registry (UKKOR), the UK Joint Registry (UKNJR), and collects his own outcome data for arthroplasty and multi-ligament knee surgery. He aims to integrate, and improve upon, the evidence-based treatment methods from International knee and trauma conferences.
