Mr Dafydd ‘Taff’ Edwards – LIPS Upper Limb Specialist did an operation using a new concept in hand surgery - Wide Awake Local Anaesthetic Surgery. The patient remains awake and is able to move his hand normally during the procedure but can’t feel anything. The benefit is that the repaired injury can be tested by the patient while the operation is still in progress so that the consultant can be sure it’s been reconstructed soundly. Plus the risk of a general anaesthetic is avoided.
