eXroid® Treatment for Haemorrhoids (Piles)

background

How eXroid® works?

The eXroid® procedure utilises electrotherapy, a clinically researched treatment with a 150-year history of proven effectiveness:

  • A proctoscope is gently inserted to identify and isolate the base of the haemorrhoids.

  • A small electrical current of up to 16mA is applied, which may feel slightly uncomfortable but not painful, to seal the feeding varicose blood vessel.

  • The effects of the treatment continue to work over the following four weeks after the procedure.

Treatment Suitability & Convenience

  • The eXroid® treatment is suitable for all four grades of internal haemorrhoids. You don’t need a doctor’s referral meaning you can receive treatment without needing to wait for symptoms to worsen.

  • The treatment can be performed in acute, primary and even homecare settings.

  • It’s highly convenient, as the consultation, examination, and treatment are all carried out within a single hour-long appointment.

background

Follow-up & Aftercare

  • The treatment is low-risk, requiring no bowel preparation or anaesthesia unless sedation is requested.

  • There’s minimal recovery time, so you can return to normal activities straight away.

  • Personalised aftercare includes a follow-up after four weeks to assess progress and provide ongoing support.

  • Multiple treatments may be needed for larger haemorrhoids or those with more feeding vessels.

Piles, also known as haemorrhoids, are swollen blood vessels found in and around the anus and rectum. They can cause discomfort, pain, itching, and sometimes bleeding, and are common among adults.

Haemorrhoids can appear as small lumps or bulges around the anus or inside the rectum. External piles may look like swollen, flesh-coloured lumps, while internal piles can be less visible, often causing bleeding or discomfort during bowel movements.

Piles can be caused by increased pressure on the blood vessels in the anus and rectum. This pressure may result from factors such as constipation, straining during bowel movements, pregnancy, obesity, or prolonged sitting. Genetics can also play a role in developing haemorrhoids.

Treatment options for haemorrhoids range from lifestyle changes, such as increasing fibre intake and using topical creams, to more advanced options like banding, laser therapy, or surgery. The eXroid® treatment offers a non-surgical, effective solution for internal haemorrhoids.

Treatment for haemorrhoids varies depending on the severity. For mild cases, lifestyle changes, such as increasing fibre intake and using over-the-counter creams, may help. More severe cases may require medical treatments like banding, injections, or surgery. The eXroid® treatment offers a non-invasive option that uses electrotherapy to treat internal haemorrhoids effectively.

The eXroid® treatment is generally not painful. Most patients experience only mild discomfort, such as a slight tingling or warm sensation during the procedure. It is a minimally invasive treatment, and any discomfort typically resolves quickly after the session. No anaesthesia is required unless it is requested by the patient.

Sedation is not typically required for the eXroid® treatment, as it is minimally invasive and generally well tolerated. However, if you feel anxious or prefer sedation, it can be discussed with your consultant to ensure a comfortable experience.

Recovery time after the eXroid® treatment is minimal. Over 90% of patients reported that they resumed their normal activities immediately after the procedure. Some may experience mild discomfort or sensitivity in the treated area, but this usually subsides within a few days.
