Dr Jude Oben BM,BCh(Oxon), Ph.D, FRCP, FRCPE, AGAF; holds a Ph.D in Pharmacology from University College London and studied medicine at Oxford University (St John’s College), with a stint at Stanford University, USA, as a Research Fellow in Immunology. After Oxford, initial post-graduate training was at Imperial College London (Royal Post-Graduate Medical School, Hammersmith Hospital).
Subsequent post-graduate training was in Ophthalmology at Imperial College, St Mary’s Hospital. He left ophthalmology for Gastroenterology-Hepatology. During his Gastro-Hep specialist training, he undertook post-doctoral training at Johns Hopkins University, USA. His work at Hopkins combined his previous interest in Neuroscience with Hepatology and he discovered that the Autonomic Nervous System regulates liver repair through actions on liver progenitor cells and stellate cells, in obesity-related-liver-disease (Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease, NAFLD). He was awarded Wellcome Trust funding on returning to London to lead a Research Group at UCL, now at King’s College London; focusing on Trans-generational transmission of obesity and NAFLD; Liquid Biomarkers for NAFLD; Liver Regeneration and Liver Fibrosis. His Clinical Expertise is in Hepatology, Obesity and Metabolic Endoscopy.
