Groin issues often originate from sports-related activities or as a secondary consequence of medical conditions or surgeries. Let's take a closer look.

Athletic or Movement-Related Injuries

Common sports-related causes include:

  • Athletic Pubalgia:

Often called a sports hernia, this involves strain or tear in the muscles or tendons in the groin area.

  • Avulsion Fractures:

Occur when a small piece of bone attached to a tendon or ligament gets pulled away from the main part of the bone

  • Femoral Neck Stress Fracture:

A hairline crack in the femoral neck, typically due to overuse or repetitive force

  • Groin Strain:

Stretching or tearing of muscles in the groin area

  • Osteitis Pubis:

Inflammation of the pubic symphysis, common in sports involving repetitive kicking or pivoting

  • Pelvic Fractures:

Breaks in the bones of the pelvis, frequently resulting from high-energy impacts

Symptoms of Groin Injuries

One of the most common signs of a groin pull is feeling pain and tenderness right in the groin area and along the inside of your thigh. It's the kind of discomfort that becomes more noticeable when you try bringing your legs together or when you lift your knee.

Sometimes, at the moment of injury, you might feel a sudden pop or snap in the groin area, followed by a sharp pain.

Groin pain can vary quite a bit from one person to another. For some, it feels like a consistent pulling or aching sensation. You might find that this pain gets worse with certain movements or changes depending on whether you're sitting or lying down. It's not uncommon to wake up with intense pain in the morning or to notice the discomfort getting worse as the day goes on.
