Mr Namal Perera

Mr Namal Perera is a consultant foot and ankle and trauma surgeon, working at St George's Hospital, Major Trauma Centre, South London. He specialises in the diagnosis and treatment of a broad range of foot and ankle pathology. His foot and ankle practice encompasses most conditions, although he has particular interest in post-stroke spasticity, Achilles disorders and complex trauma reconstruction. He established the Achilles tendon injury pathway at St George's with the wider MDT, and is also integral to the diabetic foot and bone infection services.

Mr Perera graduated from the University of Leeds Medical School in 2003. Following basic surgical training in the South East, he returned for specialist training on the Yorkshire Orthopaedic Training rotation. During this general orthopaedic training, he worked with several foot and ankle and limb reconstruction surgical firms. He subsequently undertook fellowships in these sub-speciality disciplines. Therefore, Mr Perera is dual-fellowship trained in foot and ankle surgery (Newcastle and Epsom) and complex trauma and reconstruction (King's College Hospital).

Mr Perera is very keen on education and counts the regional "Trainer of the Year" award in 2021 amongst his best achievements. He has taught on several orthopaedic educational courses and is an instructor on the Royal College of Surgeons Advanced Trauma Life Support course. As an assigned educational supervisor and clinical supervisor for orthopaedic trainees, he is responsible for developing future specialists.
