Ms Claudia Maizen

Ms Claudia Maizen is a Consultant Paediatric Orthopaedic Surgeon with over 20 years of experience treating the full range of paediatric orthopaedic conditions. She has specialist expertise in paediatric trauma, developmental dysplasia of the hip (DDH), neuromuscular conditions including cerebral palsy, and paediatric foot and ankle surgery. Ms Maizen has practised at Barts Health NHS Trust in London since 2010. Her clinical practice covers trauma, neuromuscular disorders, DDH, paediatric and adolescent hip and foot and ankle disorders, growth-related problems, and sports injuries. She treats patients of all ages from newborns to young adults. Her practice is grounded in a thorough, family-centred approach. She takes time to explain each child's condition clearly and prioritises non-surgical treatments wherever appropriate. Surgery is recommended only when it will genuinely improve a child's function and quality of life. At Barts Health, Ms Maizen serves as Clinical Lead for Paediatric Orthopaedics. She leads the Neuromuscular Service, Neuromuscular Botulinum Toxin Service, and DDH screening service. She is General Secretary of the International Interdisciplinary Consensus Committee for DDH Evaluation (ICODE), Chair of its Educational Subcommittee, an elected member of the BSCOS Research Committee, and a member of the BSCOS DDH Steering Group. Ms Maizen co-authored Professor Graf's textbook, Sonography of the Infant's Hip (Springer, 2024), and is widely published in peer-reviewed journals. She is Course Director of the Graf Hip Ultrasound Courses in London and an international ICODE faculty member, teaching and mentoring across Europe, Asia, and South America. Beyond her clinical practice, she leads charitable surgical teams in Ghana and Mongolia, training local surgeons and improving paediatric orthopaedic care.
