About Gretchen Carnita Robertson
Biography
Gretchen Robertson BA (Hons), Level 7 Dip. Integrative Transpersonal Psychotherapy & Counselling, MBACP (Accred.), BAATN
Gretchen Robertson is an Accredited Integrative Psychotherapist who brings more than two decades of experience working in therapeutic, helping, and psychologically informed roles. She works collaboratively with consultant psychiatrists, specialist physicians, GPs, and other multidisciplinary healthcare professionals to provide specialist psychotherapy for adults experiencing a broad range of emotional and psychological difficulties.
Her clinical work includes anxiety, depression, trauma, relationship difficulties, burnout, life transitions, grief, and chronic stress. She has developed a particular specialist interest in psychodermatology and body-focused repetitive behaviours, including skin picking (excoriation disorder) and trichotillomania, recognising the close relationship between emotional wellbeing, the nervous system, and physical health.
Gretchen holds a BA (Hons) and a postgraduate Level 7 Diploma in Integrative Transpersonal Psychotherapy and Counselling. She is an Accredited Member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and a member of the British Association of Black Therapists and Networks (BAATN). She is committed to ongoing clinical supervision, advanced professional development, and evidence-informed practice.
Alongside her clinical work, Gretchen has contributed to public conversations about mental health through appearances and interviews across national media and professional platforms, including the BBC, ITV, Woman’s Hour, and the BAATN podcast. She is committed to increasing public understanding of psychological wellbeing and reducing stigma around mental health.
Her integrative approach draws from psychodynamic, attachment, humanistic, cognitive, somatic, and transpersonal psychotherapy, allowing each course of therapy to be tailored to the individual. She believes that effective psychotherapy extends beyond symptom reduction to foster deeper emotional resilience, self-understanding, and lasting psychological change.
Known for her warm, thoughtful, and collaborative style, Gretchen provides a safe, confidential space in which clients can explore complex experiences, strengthen emotional wellbeing, and move towards meaningful and sustainable change. She works with adults from diverse cultural and professional backgrounds and accepts referrals from individuals, healthcare professionals, insurers, and medico-legal services.
