Why Choose This Service?
Uses ultrasound technology instead of X-rays, making it safe and gentle.
A fast, painless scanning process requiring only loose clothing.
Precise measurement of Bone Mineral Density (BMD) and structure.
Perfect for frequent monitoring and early detection to identify conditions like osteoporosis, fractures, infections, or bone disease.
Why Get a Bone Density Scan?
It finds early signs of bone loss before any symptoms or fractures happen.
It helps with early diagnosis of osteoporosis, a condition where bones become weak and break easily.
It gives you peace of mind and a clear plan to protect your bone health.

Who Should Get a Bone Scan?
A bone scan is recommended if you:
Are middle-aged or older.
Are postmenopausal or had an early menopause.
Had your ovaries removed before age 45 and have not received hormone replacement therapy (HRT).
Have a family history of osteoporosis.
Experienced bone fractures from minor falls or unexplained height loss.
Have arthritis or other conditions affecting bone strength.
Have low calcium or vitamin D levels.
Have taken oral steroids (glucocorticoids) for three months or more, which can weaken bones.

How to prepare for your appointment?
The patient should wear loose comfortable clothing with no metal.
The test takes samples from both the hip joint and the lower spine (through the stomach).
The test can take between 15-20 minutes and will require a consultation for the results.
There will be an Echo light report generated by the machine, which is to be interpreted by the referring clinician.
£119 covers the scan only.
Clinical interpretation requires a separate consultation with additional fees.
