Prof. Raju Ahluwalia

In 2022, Prof. Ahluwalia was awarded the Hunterian Lecture in recognition of a significant contribution to surgical science, assessed by an expert committee set up by the Council. Following in one of the greatest traditions from 1810, some of the most famous names in British surgery have given a Hunterian Lecture, including Abernethy, Brodie, Treves, Wells, Lister, Paget, and Percival Pott. As a consultant orthopaedic trauma & foot and ankle surgeon working at King’s College Hospital London and undertake foot & ankle, diabetic foot and lower limb reconstruction surgery and the Major Trauma Centre care. His clinical practice is divided between foot and ankle limb reconstruction, and elective practice including arthroplasty, diabetes foot surgery and major trauma. The common thread being the need for limb salvage and manging bone infection.

He's a member of the King’s Diabetic Foot Unit and a founder member of the International Diabetic Foot Care Group – working with D-Foot International He has sat on the Executive committee member of the Diabetic Foot Study Group executive committee (DFSG). He Has been an invited member of the London Major Trauma Service Elderly Trauma Guidelines (2016, 2018). Currently, I manage the bone infection MDM and am clinical lead for the bone infection. He has published over 50 peer reviewed papers, supported NIHR Portfolio studies, and successfully obtained as an NIHR HTN grant and is the clinical lead in national and international studies, working with organisations such as BOFAS, BOTA, D-FOOT and OTA. Within King’s his medical education roles include an Annual Quality Improvement Project, teaching & lecturing annually to medical and allied students in the MSK teaching block, mentoring students within the medical school, supporting the Orthopaedic Society, and with the BIOS running an undergraduate webinar series utilising.
